California Rental Laws Are Changing In 2024: What Landlords Need To Know

Mar 4, 2024

Welcome to SNS Law Group. In this video, Attorney Edrin Shamtob, a licensed California attorney with over a decade of experience in the real estate field, discusses the critical changes in California rental laws that are coming into effect in 2024, including AB-12. As a landlord in California, it’s absolutely critical for you to keep track of new laws. One of the significant changes is the imposition of AB-12 on all landlords in California. Whereas in the past, landlords were allowed to collect between two and three months’ rent for security deposits, landlords will now be capped at only one month’s rent for a security deposit.

These changes can have significant implications for landlords, particularly in terms of financial planning and tenant management. It’s important to understand these changes and adapt your practices accordingly to ensure compliance and avoid potential legal issues.
